Fiset Is Left Out in the Coldas Team Sets 23-Man Roster
Stephane Fiset is the odd man out in the Kings’ goaltending rotation.
Fiset was reassigned Tuesday to the Kings’ American Hockey League affiliate at Manchester, N.H., leaving Jamie Storr to back up Felix Potvin.
General Manager Dave Taylor tried unsuccessfully during training camp to trade Fiset, 31, or Storr, 25, but found no takers.
After Fiset went unclaimed in Friday’s waiver draft, clearing the way for the Kings to reassign him, his fate was all but sealed. If the Kings had demoted Storr, he would have had to clear waivers.
Fiset, who declined comment, has played in 200 games for the Kings, but a knee injury last season limited him to only seven.
“He’s got a lot of good years in front of him,” Taylor said. “What’s hurt him at this point is that he played in only a handful of games last year. Teams are uncomfortable with his health until they see him out there playing and doing well. So the best thing for him is to get playing in some games.
“I told him that we would certainly work with his agent and if there’s an opportunity to move him and it’s a good situation for him, we would do that.”
By reassigning Fiset and center Adam Mair to Manchester and putting forwards Adam Deadmarsh, Nelson Emerson and Steve Kelly on the injured-reserve list, the Kings set their 23-man roster:
Forwards: Ziggy Palffy, Jozef Stumpel, Bryan Smolinski, Randy Robitaille, Eric Belanger, Glen Murray, Steve Heinze, Ian Laperriere, Kelly Buchberger, Jaroslav Bednar, Craig Johnson, Ken Belanger and Scott Thomas.
Defensemen: Mattias Norstrom, Aaron Miller, Mathieu Schneider, Lubomir Visnovsky, Philippe Boucher, Andreas Lilja, Jere Karalahti and Jaroslav Modry.
Goaltenders: Potvin and Storr.
Coach Andy Murray said he’d given no thought to keeping three goaltenders.
“It just doesn’t work,” he said.

Deadmarsh, who sat out all six exhibition games, is listed as day to day because of a groin injury and could be activated in time for the season opener Thursday night against the Phoenix Coyotes at Staples Center.
Emerson, who suffered a concussion Saturday night, is expected to be sidelined for at least two games.
