The Pacific Symphony ends its outdoor summer series with its traditional Tchaikovsky program complete with cannons and fireworks. Russian conductor Dmitri Liss makes his Pacific Symphony debut leading the orchestra in Capriccio Italien, excerpts from the three ballets and the “1812” Overture with the Huntington Beach Band (directed by Thomas Ridley).
The soloists include two Young Concert Artists Competition Winner--violinist Karen Gomyo (playing the Valse Scherzo in C) and cellist Rafal Kwiatkowski (Variations on a Rococo Theme).* Pacific Symphony, Verizon Wireless Amphitheater, 8808 Irvine Center Drive, Irvine. Hollywood is put on replay through the eyes of a group of internationally recognized artists. “Recasting the Past: Beneath the Hollywood Tinsel” is an exhibition that uses traditional media, computer-generated imagery and film images to address contemporary social, political, religious and ethnic issues.* “Recasting the Past: Beneath the Hollywood Tinsel,” Cal State Fullerton, Main Art Gallery, 800 N.
