Arizona Runner Wins Cancer Fund-Raiser
A runner from Flagstaff, Ariz., took first-place honors Sunday in the Komen Orange County Race for the Cure, which netted about $1.7 million for the fight against breast cancer. Anna Brzezinska, 30, finished the 5K course around Newport Beach’s Fashion Island in 16 minutes and 28 seconds, said Kathy Kinane, a spokeswoman for the Orange County affiliate of the Dallas-based Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, which sponsored the annual event.
Second- and third-place honors were won by Naomi Wangui of Westchester, Pa., and Sylvia Mosqueda of Los Angeles.
The event attracted about 27,000 runners--20% more than last year--as well as about 10,000 spectators, Kinane said.
