Washington Redskins at Green Bay Packers

6 p.m., Channel 7

The line: Packers by 9.

Story line: The Packers are trying to maintain the momentum they established in their opener, when they rolled over Detroit. Brett Favre looked great, and the Lions could do little to stop the run. Washington, meanwhile, looked terrible against San Diego and has a blossoming quarterback controversy between Jeff George and Tony Banks. Neither option is too appealing. George will start, but Coach Marty Schottenheimer has shown he has no problem turning to Banks if things get bumpy.

Key matchups: Redskin Bruce Smith is No. 2 on the league’s career sack list (181, behind Reggie White’s 198) and has 241/2 sacks on “Monday Night Football” but has never sacked Favre. Washington’s defense has the unenviable task of containing Favre, who looked sharp as ever in Week 1, and running back Ahman Green, who has 510 yards rushing in the last four regular-season games. He led the league with his opening-week performance of 177 total yards.

Key injuries: Redskins--FB Bryan Johnson (flu), questionable. Packers--CB/KR Allen Rossum (hamstring), doubtful.

The pick: Could the Redskins really be as bad as they looked against the Chargers? You bet. And now they’re bickering. The Packers should win handily.
