Man Is Arrested in Crash That Injured 12
A 29-year-old Mission Hills man was arrested Monday on suspicion of drunk driving after police said he touched off a chain-reaction accident that injured 12 people.
Manuel Mendoza is accused of driving his pickup through a red light at the intersection of Woodman Avenue and Vanowen Street at 6 p.m. Sunday, striking a church van and two other vehicles, said LAPD Sgt. John Pasquariello.
The injured, including two children 8 and 10, were taken by six ambulances to five hospitals. Their injuries are not life-threatening, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Jim Wells.
Mendoza was in serious but stable condition in the jail ward at County-USC Medical Center.
