Scuba Diver’s Body Is Found in Ocean
A 49-year-old man who went for a nighttime swim with friends off Laguna Beach was found dead early Saturday, floating in the water, authorities said.
Sheldon Cahoon, 49, of Las Vegas was scuba diving with five friends at Sleepy Hollow Beach in the 600 block of South Coast Highway, said Laguna Beach Police Sgt. Greg Bartz.
When the friends returned to shore about 2 a.m., they noticed that Cahoon was missing. They then spotted his body, police said.
Officials have concluded that the death was accidental.
Coroner’s officials completed an autopsy Saturday but said additional tests, which could take several months, would be needed to determine the exact cause of death, said Deputy Coroner Bruce Lyle.
