Le Pen Rhetoric Evokes Specter of Nazi Camps
From Times Wire Reports
Far-right presidential candidate Jean-Marie Le Pen turned up his anti-immigration rhetoric, saying France should set up “transit camps” for illegal immigrants and even organize a “special train” to ship immigrants to Britain.
Le Pen’s language evoked the transit camps of World War II, where thousands of French Jews were detained before being deported to death camps on “special trains.”
Street protests against Le Pen continued Friday.
Le Pen faces a runoff against President Jacques Chirac on May 5.
