Kitaen Plea to Charges: Not Guilty
Actress Tawney Kitaen pleaded not guilty Monday to charges of domestic violence against her husband, Cleveland Indians pitcher Chuck Finley. The plea was entered by her attorney in Superior Court in Laguna Hills.
Kitaen, 40, who appeared in “Bachelor Party” and “California Girls,” was not present when her attorney, Blair Berk, made the plea. Superior Court Judge Pamela L. Iles set a June 3 pretrial hearing on two misdemeanor charges of corporal injury to a spouse and battery.
Police who responded to the couple’s Newport Beach home April 1 said they saw cuts and bruises on Finley, who used to pitch for the Anaheim Angels.
Berk declined to comment Monday on reports that Kitaen had checked into a treatment program that deals with addiction to prescription medication for depression and migraine headaches.
A maximum sentence for the two charges would be one year in jail and $6,000 in fines.
Finley, 39, filed for divorce on April 4 and obtained a temporary restraining order preventing Kitaen from seeing him. He also received temporary custody of their daughters, ages 9 and 3.
