Choices We Make Define Who We Are
It saddens me to read of another youngster lost to gang and drug violence (“Slain Teen Informant’s Kin Settle for $1 Million,” Aug. 27). It sickens me to see a mother profit from it and then hold herself out as a victim. She signed her son’s death sentence when she approved of his participation in the informant program.
A son and mother chose to help put away drug dealers. That was honorable. Then the son chose to continue buying drugs. That was stupid. Should the Brea Police Department and the people of the communities it polices pay for the consequences of the son’s and mother’s choices? Shame on the lawyers and mother who think so.
As human beings we are blessed with the gift of free will. Every day we are given chances to choose right from wrong, honor from dishonor. Those choices show who we are. By trying to hold someone else responsible for the decisions we make, we show that we are nobody.
