City Raises Budget for Independence Day Gala
To commemorate Moorpark’s 20th birthday, the City Council this week approved spending $11,000 more for its 2003 Independence Day fireworks show and celebration.
The event’s $38,000 budget will pay for additional fireworks at Arroyo Vista Park, a skydiving team and a performance by Starship, the current incarnation of 1960s rock group Jefferson Airplane. As usual, Moorpark will celebrate Independence Day the evening of July 3.
“It seems to work for us -- we avoid the competition, and it frees people up to celebrate the Fourth,” said John Hartnett, the city’s recreation supervisor.
At its meeting Wednesday, the council said goodbye to retiring Councilman John Wozniak and welcomed Janice Parvin.
