The power of true love

In her “Single in the City” column, Maria Elena Fernandez expressed a wonderful truth about love (“Recalling a bolt from the blue,” Dec. 19). Love does not have to last a lifetime. Usually it does not.

Readers and Fernandez should read Antoine de Saint-Exupery’s classic children’s book titled “The Little Prince,” one of my favorites. It is fun and moving, perfect during this holiday season. Its theme is that love is worthwhile because of the memories -- the loved one becomes a source of meaning in your life. We all need a precious rose to brighten our lives, in the now or through memories.
