Forestry Service Fined in Workers’ Fatal Crash

The government said it is fining a forestry service $17,000 for failing to ensure the safety of 14 migrant workers who died in a van crash north of Portland.
The Labor Department also said it has begun working to revoke the license of Evergreen Forestry Services as a farm labor contractor.
The migrant workers were killed Sept. 12 when their company van skidded off a bridge in the wilderness of northern Maine. Only one person survived the crash, the deadliest in state history. The migrants included 10 Hondurans and four Guatemalans.
