Their Hollywood Visit Went Like a Dream

My wife, 3-year-old daughter and I were first-time visitors to L.A. between Christmas and New Year’s Day, specifically Hollywood and a one-day jaunt to Disneyland. Travel guides love to scare people about how complicated L.A. is, and how you’d better have a car or you’re sunk. They call Hollywood Boulevard seedy and public transportation limited. I realize we didn’t see much in just a few days, but what I saw and experienced was neither seedy nor limited, and not any more complicated than any other city.

For only $1.35 per person we had a speedy ride from Union Station to Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue in clean, comfortable cars. Within minutes we were at the Roosevelt Hotel. The famed boulevard exceeded our expectations, especially the new Hollywood & Highland shopping area. The myth of a city of dreams stood the test--and is still very real in our minds. Thanks for the good time, Los Angeles.
