District Revokes Charter of Muslim-Led Academy
From Times Wire Reports
The Fresno Unified School District Board voted 7-0 to revoke Gateway Academy’s charter after learning the 600-student statewide school had run up a $1.3-million debt, hired teachers without credentials and employed people who didn’t pass criminal background checks, including two felons.
School attorney Akil Secret said Gateway would attempt to stay open through arbitration or court order. It is run by a leader in a Muslim community called Baladullah.
