Government Restores Relations With Cuba

In his last major act in office, President Carlos Flores reestablished diplomatic relations with Cuba after a 40-year hiatus.
Flores, of the Liberal Party, handed over power Sunday to the National Party’s Ricardo Maduro, elected president in November.
More than 45,000 people gathered at a stadium in the capital, Tegucigalpa, to watch as the Stanford-educated Maduro was sworn in.
Honduras broke ties with Cuba in 1961 when Havana was expelled from the Organization of American States.
