No Damage, Injuries From Northridge Aftershocks

A swarm of Northridge earthquake aftershocks continued for the third day Wednesday, with magnitude 3.5 and 3.0 temblors recorded in midmorning 10 minutes apart.

There were also several smaller jolts.

All of the quakes occurred in the same vicinity as Monday’s and Tuesday’s quakes, in the Santa Susana Mountains six miles northeast of Simi Valley and six miles west of Valencia. None caused any damage or injuries.

The 3.5 quake, at 10:47 a.m., was felt throughout the Santa Clarita, Simi and San Fernando valleys and as far east as Pasadena, according to a map produced by the U.S. Geological Survey.

There have been more than 15,700 aftershocks of the 1994 Northridge quake, including 440 in the 3.0 range, 57 in the 4.0 range and 11 over 5.0.

Although the original quake was centered in the San Fernando Valley, about 70% of the energy was expended north of the Valley, and some of the hardest shaking was in the Santa Clarita Valley, earthquake scientists have concluded.
