Ventura County
Camarillo--The Lions Club Fireworks Spectacular will have food, raffles, demonstrations, jolly jumpers, rock-climbing wall, obstacle course and children’s activities. Live entertainment: the Flying Calamaries, Camarillo Community Band and others. Fillmore--The Star Spangled Car Show & Festival features more than 300 street cars, classic models, hot rods and trucks, plus arts and crafts vendors, food, live entertainment, horseshoe tournament, vintage train rides, military displays and children’s activities. Central Park and along Central Avenue, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Fireworks, 9 p.m.: Fillmore High School football field, 555 Central Ave.; gates open at 6 p.m. with related activities. Free. (805) 524-3701.
Ojai--The Ojai Independence Day Committee presents its 40th anniversary holiday activities held at several venues. A Youth Freedom Run starts from Libbey Park at 9 a.m. A downtown parade starts at 10 a.m. (Country Club Drive to Park Road), and a Picnic in the Park with food, contests, games and entertainment begins at 11:30 a.m. at Sarzotti Park, 510 Park Road. The gates open at 5 p.m. at Nordhoff High School stadium, 1401 Maricopa Highway, for the Fourth of July Concert & Fireworks Show. The concert, featuring Soul City Survivors, starts at 6 p.m. Fireworks will begin at 9:15 p.m. $8 general, $3 children. (805) 646-4295.
Oxnard-- Fireworks by the Sea festivities begin at 11 a.m. with a children’s parade, followed by live entertainment at three venues, arts and crafts, rock-climbing wall, food, children’s activities, farmers market, “Spirit of Dana Point” historic tall ship tours and more, till 5:30 p.m. Fireworks begin at 9 p.m. Channel Islands Harbor, Victoria Avenue and Channel Islands Boulevard. Simi Valley--There will be food and craft booths, plus live entertainment featuring Captain Cardiac and the Coronaries at the Spirit of America celebration. The Blurred Vision skydiving team will jump from 12,000 feet and join hands in a free fall to about 4,500 feet. Presented by Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District, Simi Valley Rotary and the City of Simi Valley. Thousand Oaks--The Conejo Recreation and Park District and the city of Thousand Oaks will offer several free and low-cost activities. All-ages nature walk, 7 a.m., west terminus of Avenida de Los Arboles in Wildwood Park, Thousand Oaks (free). Pancake breakfast, 8-11 a.m., Borchard Community Center, 190 Reino Road, Newbury Park ($3). Home Run Derby for seniors (50 and older), 9-11:30 a.m., Borchard Park, 190 Reino Road, Newbury Park ($1). Family open swim, noon-4 p.m., Thousand Oaks High School and Newbury Park High School pools (free). Ventura--The city’s 27th annual street fair, “226 Years and Going Strong,” will open with a Pushem-Pullem Parade along downtown’s Main Street, in which children and their parents are encouraged to dress up emphasizing the event’s theme celebrating our country’s Declaration of Independence. Other attractions: continuous entertainment on six stages, kids’ activities, Point Mugu Naval Base’s Ventura County Military Ceremony Unit (11 a.m.), experimental-aircraft flyovers, plus food and handicrafts galore. Ventura--At the Independence Day Celebration--hosted by the Rotary Club of Ventura and Ventura College--participants are encouraged to picnic during a four-hour variety show titled “A Musical Salute to America.” Featured will be the Rubicon Theatre Company staging “Broadway Magic,” plus zydeco band Acadiana, country musician Jennifer Starr with Silver Spur, pop group the Generations and others. Hollywood Bowl--Americana rules at the Target July 4th salute to America’s birthday. Award-winning composer John Williams leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and James Taylor will sing along in this patriotic program that includes Sousa marches and a fireworks display. Long Beach--The Queen Mary will be the site of a four-day weekend carnival of activities (today, noon-11p.m.; Friday-Sunday, 1-11 p.m.) that include food, displays, entertainment, dancing under the stars, plus admission to the Scorpion submarine and the Queen Mary’s “Behind the Scenes” guided tour and its self-guided “Ghosts & Legends” tour. The fireworks spectacular takes place on July 4 only. The fireworks are visible from across Long Beach Harbor, while those aboard the ship will hear a special musical score. Pasadena--A ticket to the Rose Bowl tonight gets you two shows in one: a match between the L.A. Galaxy and San Jose Earthquakes, and a 15-minute fireworks spectacular after the final buzzer. Orange County
Anaheim--Disneyland’s nightly fireworks show, “Believe ... There’s Magic in the Stars,” runs overtime tonight with a patriotic finale.
