Egypt Intelligence Chief Holds Talks in Israel
Egyptian Intelligence Chief Omar Suleiman held talks with Israeli leaders and said the Middle East would be destabilized if the Palestinian Authority collapsed in the face of Israel’s reoccupation of the West Bank, Israeli sources said.
Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon responded that Israel’s priority was to halt Palestinian violence. Suleiman was to meet later with Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.
Amid the talks, the Israeli army said it foiled a Palestinian attempt to infiltrate the Jewish settlement of Alei Sinai in the Gaza Strip, capturing two gunmen.
