Reid Helps East to 12-7 Victory
Darius Reid made his only reception count in the San Gabriel Valley all-star football game at Arroyo High in El Monte.
Reid, a 6-foot-1, 195-pound receiver from La Puente Bishop Amat High, scored a touchdown on a nine-yard fade pass from quarterback Richard Snyder of Chino Don Lugo to give the East its final six points in a 12-7 victory over the West. Reid outjumped defensive back Brian Golper of Arcadia for the reception early in the fourth quarter.
The West scored its only touchdown on the ensuing possession when quarterback Martin Soto of Montebello Schurr threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Alex Koplin of L.A. Loyola with 8:28 to play. The West had two more possessions, but was unable to gain a first down during either series.
Running back Marcus Nolan of West Covina South Hills was selected as the East’s most valuable player. Nolan rushed for a game-high 72 yards in 15 carries. Esteban Lopez of Claremont kicked field goals of 47 and 28 yards in the first quarter for the East.
Koplin was chosen most valuable player for the West. He had three receptions for 43 yards.
