A Single-Story Traditional in Holmby Hills Is an Original
Actor Alan Ladd--who starred in such movies as “This Gun for Hire” (1942), “Shane” (1953) and “The Carpetbaggers” (1964)--built this Holmby Hills home in 1948.
The traditional-style house was designed for Ladd by California architect Wallace Neff, who designed homes for such movie legends as Douglas Fairbanks, Charlie Chaplin, Joan Bennett and Fredric March.
Businessman Gerald Sullivan and his wife, Wendy, bought the home from the Ladd estate about 12 years ago. Ladd died at 50 in 1964.
The Sullivans updated all of the mechanical and electrical systems and raised the ceilings in all of the public rooms while maintaining the home’s architectural integrity.
