All You Need Is Five More
Those who like to play the pick six at Gulfstream Park on Fridays, when there is always a guaranteed $25,000 pool, have themselves a single today.
Orchard Park, a 3-year-old son of Hennessy, should win his fourth in a row in the $75,000-added Graveslines Stakes, the ninth of 10 races on the card.
Trained by Bill Mott for owner Peter Vegso, Orchard Park had a fourth, a third and two seconds in his first four races, but has not lost since being re-introduced to the turf on Nov. 16.
After beating maidens on the Aqueduct grass, the chestnut shipped south and won an allowance race at Gulfstream Park by daylight on Jan. 11, then won the Palm Beach, a Grade III, by nearly two lengths as the 13-10 favorite six weeks later.
In a race restricted to Florida-breds, Orchard Park gets a positive post change. After leaving from the outside in a field of 12 in the Palm Beach, he will start from post four and will again be ridden by Jerry Bailey.
Race of the day: Trainer Julio Canani has two contenders, The Price Spirit and Zanapour, in today’s seventh at Santa Anita. The race is at one mile on the grass and other notables in the field are Apache Wings, Leave Us Leap and Black Silk.
Who’s hot: Carla Gaines. When stretching out horses from a sprint to a route, the trainer has won with five of her last 12. Super High will try to improve on the percentage when she goes from six furlongs to a mile in the fifth at Santa Anita.
Who’s not: Trainers C.L. Utley, Monte Gomes and Clayton Nielson are a combined 0 for 91 at the Golden Gate Fields meet.
Exotically speaking: A pick three singling Anima Mundi in the fourth, using Super High and Cause I’m Tricky in the fifth and all in the sixth.
Winners: Previous day/meet total: 3/188. Money: Previous day/meet total: $16.40/$1,110.60. Total money bet: $1,148.
