If Base Is Contaminated, Poor Shouldn’t Suffer

Re “School Fights Blocking Reuse of Tustin Base,” March 25:

It is my understanding that if the land outside the school district’s boundaries is, in fact, contaminated, a school will not be built on the soil. A homeless shelter would be erected at this location instead.

The health of those without homes in our society is as important as the health of those with homes. Our world is corrupt enough, and when we pawn off contaminated land to the less fortunate, we taint the American idea of equality.

It is a shame to think that the people who make these decisions value one set of humans over another. It makes me question the American policy that we are so proud of--equality for all.
