Surhoff Lost for Season
Atlanta Brave outfielder-first baseman B.J. Surhoff will have surgery on his right knee and sit out the remainder of the season.
“We’re going to miss him,” Manager Bobby Cox said. “He’s so professional at what he does, always works hard and is a great example. I hope he comes back and just sits on the bench for us. He can help us in that respect.”
The Braves said Tuesday that tests confirmed that Surhoff had a torn ligament. Surhoff injured the knee when he ran into the right-field wall Saturday in the ninth inning of Atlanta’s 6-3 loss to Houston.
Surhoff was batting .293 with no homers and nine runs batted in.
