Defining Success
“Redondo Beach Debates ‘Heart of the City’” (April 29) states that the city “has never achieved the success” of neighboring Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach. How, pray tell, does your writer define “success”? If this kindler, gentler seaside town with comparatively affordable housing, tree-lined streets not perpetually packed with cars and endless excessive McMansions is unsuccessful, then we need a new definition for success. Only then will we find the cure for that commercialistic, big-city blight known as progress.
