Activists Sue to Block Mexican Trucks in U.S.
From Staff and Wire Reports
A group of environmental, consumer and labor organizations filed suit to stop the federal government from allowing Mexican trucks to operate in the United States.
The suit seeks to block implementation of safety and operational regulations that are to be met before the government can lift a 1982 ban on Mexican trucks.
Supporters of the regulations said opponents are trying to stifle trade between the countries, but environmentalists and unions said the trucks aren’t safe enough to enter the United States.
