Bail Set in Abandoned-Child Case
Bail was set at $250,000 Tuesday for a man who police said fled after an auto accident last week, leaving his critically injured infant son in the front seat.
John Steidinger, 23, made his initial court appearance on charges of felony hit-and-run, child endangering and abandoning a child. But the entry of his plea was postponed until Oct. 25, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Cher DeCant, so a public defender could be assigned to the case.
The boy suffered multiple skull fractures and a bruised lung, authorities said, and remains hospitalized.
