Texas Christian Wins Its Seventh in a Row

Freshman Lonta Hobbs ran for 123 yards and three touchdowns Wednesday night as Texas Christian defeated Southern Mississippi, 37-7, in a Conference USA game at Fort Worth.

The Horned Frogs (7-1, 4-1) have won seven in a row. It was the worst conference loss in seven years for the Golden Eagles (5-3, 3-1).

Texas A&M; officials are investigating a fight involving the school’s Corps of Cadets after Saturday’s home loss to Nebraska, according to the Bryan-College Station Eagle. Some Nebraska fans reportedly were assaulted as they rushed onto the field.... Washington State starting linebacker Ira Davis was suspended indefinitely for his part in a fight that broke the cheekbone of starting cornerback Jason David, according to ESPN. David is expected to miss up to six weeks. The report also said Cougar return specialist Adam Holiday has been suspended for a week for violating team rules.

Purdue quarterback Brandon Kirsch broke a bone in his throwing hand when he accidentally struck a wall during a fight at a fraternity party in West Lafayette, Ind. His status for the Boilermakers’ Nov. 9 game against Ohio State is not known.... Georgia running back Musa Smith is expected to play against Florida, but the season is over for receiver Damien Gray (muscle tear in left leg). The status of receiver Fred Gibson (injured ligaments in left thumb) and offensive tackle Jon Stinchcomb (cartilage damage, left knee) remain in doubt.

Tennessee receiver Kelley Washington (concussion, heel injury) is questionable for Saturday’s game at South Carolina.... Running back Jermelle Lewis is expected to start for Fred Russell (hand injury) in Iowa’s game against Wisconsin.... Oregon tailback Onterrio Smith (sore left knee) said he will play against Stanford.... Lynn Lang, a former high school coach at the center of a recruiting scandal involving Alabama, will plead guilty to a federal criminal charge next month, according to his lawyer. Lang is charged with soliciting and accepting payoffs to steer Albert Means, his top player, to Alabama in 2000.
