Terrell Davis, who in mid-August announced he was retiring from the Denver Broncos, is profiled in the latest edition of “Beyond the Glory.”
Davis, a Super Bowl most valuable player, had problems with injuries throughout his career. His first setback came during his senior season at Lincoln High in San Diego when he suffered a separated shoulder. He got passed over by major colleges and ended up at Long Beach State. After one year there, the school dropped football.
From there, he transferred to Georgia, where his career was hampered by migraine headaches and pulled hamstrings. He was drafted in the sixth round by the Broncos.
Davis’ story is an interesting one, and is well told. Among those interviewed are Davis’ mother, brother and half brother. Davis’ father was a tough disciplinarian who one night got so angry he fired gunshots over his sons’ heads.
Of his father, Davis says: “He wanted his children to grow up to be tough. Bottom line, he didn’t want any sissies in the family.”
