Soldier Charged in Kuwait Grenade Attack

A soldier from the 101st Airborne Division has been charged with murder in a grenade attack on officers’ tents in Kuwait that killed two. Ft. Campbell, Ky., officials said Sgt. Asan Akbar was charged under military law with two counts of murder and 17 counts of attempted murder.
If convicted, Akbar could face the death penalty, said Dennis Olgin, a retired judge advocate general’s corps officer. Akbar was also charged with one count of aggravated arson.
