Can a candidate withdraw his or her name from the printed ballot, now that the list has been drawn up?
*
No. Because the recall election is happening on such a tight time frame, all 135 candidates will appear on the ballot, whether or not they decide to bow out of the campaign.
By law, candidates who have qualified for a ballot have until 60 days before an election to withdraw their names. But in this recall election, the final list of candidates wasn’t certified until Wednesday -- only 55 days before the vote.
County elections officials have already submitted ballot orders to printers. At least one county -- San Diego -- expects its first shipment of absentee ballots to arrive in the next day or two so they can be sent to voters who are abroad or in the military.
