Pursley Wins at Irwindale
Greg Pursley clinched the first championship of the 2003 Irwindale Speedway season Saturday night. His victory in the 75-lap Jani-King Super Late Model series feature earned him the Miller Light Big Ten Challenge title in front of 5,319.
Pursley’s title was assured on the 35th lap when the regular series leader, Rip Michels, lost control and spun into the wall along turns 3 and 4.
In the 50-lap Auto Club Late Model series feature, Tim Huddleston earned his second win in the last four races by holding off Scott Youngren and series leader Todd Burns.
In the 75-lap Ultra Wheels Super Truck series feature, Ryan Arciero went flag-to-flag in earning his fourth win of the season. Dave Blankenship, with his second-place finish, holds a 16-point lead over Carson Woods.
In the 50-lap West Coast Pro Trucks feature, Aaron Staudinger overtook Michael Thomas in six laps and earned his first victory of the season at the track. And in the 35-lap Grand American Modified series feature, Andrew Phipps got his first win of the season.
