Duke Wins in a Rout

J.J. Redick and No. 2 Duke found their range from behind the three-point arc Monday.

Redick scored a season-high 22 points and made six three-point baskets, and freshman Luol Deng had 18 points to lead Duke past Davidson, 88-54, at Durham, N.C.

Shelden Williams had 14 points and six blocked shots for the Blue Devils (9-1), who pushed their home winning streak to a national-best 33 games. Duke was 11 of 27 on three-pointers, including nine of 16 in the second half, and shot 51% from the field.

The 11 three-pointers were a season-high for the Blue Devils, who have won six straight games since a 78-68 loss to Purdue in the Great Alaska Shootout on Nov. 29.

“I think this whole month since we got back from Alaska, we’ve just been a better offensive team,” Coach Mike Krzyzewski said. “ ... When we do have a break, we’re not going nuts on the break trying to get [the score] on the first pass. We’re showing more maturity.”

Ian Johnson scored 14 points to lead the Wildcats (4-7), who have lost 17 straight games against Duke.

No. 3 Georgia Tech 86, Virginia Commonwealth 65 -- Marvin Lewis scored 19 points and the Yellow Jackets (12-0) matched their best start ever in a victory over the Rams (6-3) at Atlanta.

No. 7 Oklahoma 72, Texas Pan American 57 -- Kevin Bookout scored a season-high 18 points and had 12 rebounds and Jaison Williams had 17 points to lead the Sooners (9-0) over the Broncs (3-9) at Norman, Okla.

No. 13 Kansas 78, Binghamton 46 -- J.R. Giddens scored 16 points and Keith Langford had 14 to lead the Jayhawks (7-2) to an easy victory over the Bearcats (4-6) at Lawrence, Kan.

No. 19 Texas 88, George Washington 72 -- Freshman P.J. Tucker scored a season-high 27 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in his first start to lead the Longhorns (6-2) over the Colonials (6-5) at Austin, Texas.

No. 25 Marquette 77, Sacred Heart 72 -- Travis Diener scored 22 points, including the first eight and final five of the second half for the Golden Eagles (9-2) in a victory over the Pioneers (4-5) at Milwaukee.

Jamal Hill scored 18 points and Jason Braxton had 15 and a career-high 10 assists to lead Arizona State (6-2) to an 89-70 victory over San Diego (3-9) in the first round of the Sun Devils’ azcentral.com Hoops Classic at Tempe, Ariz.... Bracey Wright scored 39 points, 28 before halftime, and Indiana (6-4) led throughout in a 79-70 win over North Texas (4-6) at Denton, Texas.
