Internal Probe of Fatal Shooting Clears Officers
From Times Wire Services
Two white police detectives will keep their jobs after an internal investigation cleared them of wrongdoing in the fatal shooting of a handcuffed black man.
Louisville Police Chief Robert White said that the actions of Dets. Michael O’Neil and James Luckett were consistent with department policy.
A grand jury had declined to indict the detectives, prompting civil rights protests this year.
Luckett, White said, will be given a written reprimand for not having his handcuffs on his person on Dec. 5, when O’Neil shot James Taylor 11 times.
