Agriculture Chief Resigns Amid Inquiry

The state’s agriculture commissioner resigned amid a federal investigation into contracts awarded to her campaign donors. The move came the same day that Meg Scott Phipps’ deputy commissioner was indicted by the federal grand jury investigating Phipps’ campaign finances.
The charges against Deputy Commissioner Mike Blanton included conspiracy to commit obstruction of justice. He is the third Phipps aide to face charges.
