4 Charged With Animal Cruelty in Pig Beating
Four men have been arrested for choking and beating several pigs during a family picnic near Bakersfield, said Michael Yraceburn, a Kern County deputy district attorney.
A videotape seized during a January raid of alleged bear poachers showed the pigs being roughed up during a picnic last year, said Yraceburn. The men have been charged with animal cruelty.
The video belonged to Jessie Merrill, 31, of Arvin, who was one of the men charged in the alleged pig incident. Merrill recently served a 60-day jail sentence for a conspiracy to kill a black bear.
