Hoping the show has (hot) legs
“Tonight’s the Night,” a new musical featuring nearly two dozen Rod Stewart hits, will open this fall on London’s West End.
The 57-year-old rocker was on hand at a London news conference Tuesday, clapping along as Tim Howard, Diane Pilkington, Hannah Waddingham and Mike KcKell, the stars of the musical, ran through “Tonight’s the Night,” “Sailing” and “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy.”
These songs and others from the Stewart catalog are interspersed in a Faustian story about an infatuated nerd who sells his soul to become more like his smooth-talking, priapic hero, Rod Stewart.
The show, written and directed by Ben Elton (“Beautiful Game” and “We Will Rock You”), will begin previews Oct. 15 at Victoria Palace Theatre. British producer Phil McIntyre and Arnold Stiefel, the Los Angeles-based film producer who is Stewart’s longtime manager, are backing the musical.
