Fire Stations to Accept Unwanted Newborns

Fire stations across Ventura County have been designated “safe havens” where mothers can relinquish unwanted newborns without fear of prosecution.
Babies can be surrendered within 72 hours of birth with no questions asked, said Ted Myers, the county’s Human Services Agency director.
Hospital emergency rooms are also safe havens.
The county Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the plan, calling it a humane way for mothers to relinquish their infants.
