Ontario Man Held in Assault, Abduction
Police on Friday arrested an 18-year-old Ontario man suspected of breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment wielding a shotgun and briefly abducting the woman and her 2-year-old daughter.
Ontario police allege that Daniel Frank Aranda forced his way into an apartment in the 1000 block of E Street in Ontario about 1 a.m.
Neighbors called police to report an altercation between Aranda and his ex-girlfriend, Christina Hurtado, 18.
Aranda allegedly carried a shotgun into the apartment unit that was occupied by Hurtado, her daughter and five other people, including a male adult, Richard Vindola.
A fight between Aranda and Vindola ensued, Ontario police spokesman Dave McBride said. After striking Vindola with the butt of the shotgun, Aranda grabbed Hurtado and her daughter and forced them outside, McBride said.
Officers arrested Aranda at his parents’ home about 8 a.m., then found Hurtado about 15 minutes later, McBride said.
Vindola was in stable condition with mild head injuries at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton, police said.
