When Bob and Renee Nunn married and went to San Francisco for their honeymoon, the couple, who had grown up in Los Angeles, liked the Victorian houses they saw so much that they wanted to build one.

That dream came true almost 23 years later on 20 acres in Hidden Valley, near Thousand Oaks.

The Nunns have finished building the biggest Victorian house they have ever seen, although they are quick to say that it’s a Queen Anne on the outside only. It’s “a modern California home on the inside,” meaning no small, dark rooms; and nothing but up-to-date conveniences, including what Bob terms his “contribution”: a control system for the whole house. “So you can turn on the spa heater, control security and climate or make the music throughout the house louder or softer” all from one location, he said. Bob is in the technology business as president and chief executive of Fulcrum Microsystems in Calabasas Hills.

Renee oversaw the color schemes and design details of the house, which they call Heartland.

During the project, which took more than three years, she was assisted by Brian Lerman and Marlene Ayerle of Artistic Residential Creations, and Mike and Brian Iverson of Iverson Construction. All are based in Camarillo.

About this house: The team had so much fun building this house that the Nunns decided to sell it and build another. “We enjoy the process,” she said. Although the couple had renovated their many homes through the years, they had never built a house.
