* Seeded losers -- Men: No. 11 Jiri Novak, to Alexander Popp; Women: No. 11 Jelena Dokic, to Maria Sharapova.

* Stat of the Day -- Five Russian women have reached the fourth round at a Grand Slam for the first time: Elena Dementieva, Anastasia Myskina, Maria Sharapova, Svetlana Kuznetsova and Vera Zvonareva.

Lawn-Abiding Citizen

Maria Sharapova started the year with five straight losses on hard or clay courts but has won seven of eight matches on grass:

Australian Open (hard): Lost in first round to Klara Koukalova.

Indian Wells Pacific Life Open (hard): Lost in first round to Samantha Reeves.

NASDAQ-100 (hard): Lost in first round to Els Callens.

Family Circle Cup (clay): Lost in first round to Maja Matevzic.

French Open (clay): Lost in first round to Magui Serna.

DFS Classic (grass): Won four matches, lost to Shinobu Asagoe in semifinals.

Wimbledon (grass): Upset Jelena Dokic to advance to fourth round.
