U.S. School Cancels Hamburg Students’ Visit
From Times wire reports
A high school in Murfreesboro, Tenn., has canceled a visit by more than a dozen students from Hamburg, Germany.
The U.S. school suggested the Germans stay home rather than bring “anti-American feeling,” said Sachsenweg School English teacher Jutta Kuehn. The German agency that coordinates educational exchanges said other programs also have been called off.
Officials, including the U.S. ambassador to Germany, have attempted to play down the incidents, but they indicate some strain from Germany’s opposition to the war in Iraq.
