3 Skulls in Trash May Be Macabre Souvenirs
Three human skulls found in the trash at a Duarte mobile home park may have been put there by a woman who said they were souvenirs of her late husband, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The skulls caused a stir Friday when a 12-year-old girl brought them to her Covina school, saying that her grandmother had found them, and asked if they were real, authorities said.
Sheriff’s Lt. David Brown said a woman went to the Temple City substation Saturday morning, and said that while cleaning out her garage, she had thrown out three skulls belonging to her late husband, who she said served overseas in the Army in 1967.
“According to her, he got them from some kind of mass grave in Turkey,” Brown said.
He said homicide investigators would try to verify the skulls’ origins.
