UPSET SPECIALS
In the second-to-last week of the Southern Section regular season, several teams that won’t qualify for the playoffs disrupted the postseason positioning of front-runners. The teams that pulled off the upsets, with their records going into the particular game:
* Riverside Notre Dame (1-21, 1-10) defeated Yucca Valley (13-6, 9-3) in 12 innings, 8-7, in a De Anza League game that may cost Yucca Valley a playoff berth.
* Tustin (5-17, 2-10) beat Placentia El Dorado (18-5, 9-3) in a Century League game, 4-2.
* Anaheim Loara (7-16, 2-10) scored a 5-1 victory over Cypress (14-8-1, 9-3) and prevented the Centurions from moving into first place in the Empire League.
* Rosamond (3-10, 2-4) beat Kern Valley (14-4, 5-1) in a High Desert League game, 7-0, despite being no-hit by the Broncos’ Travis Hunsaker.
* Santa Barbara San Marcos (4-12, 1-6) beat Ventura (13-10, 4-4) in a Channel League game, 4-2.
* Riverside La Sierra (4-17, 1-11) dislodged Norco (13-9, 8-4) from a first-place tie in the Mountain View League with a 14-3 victory.
* Hemet West Valley (3-21, 1-7) knocked Elsinore (14-8, 6-4) out of second place in the Sunbelt League with a 5-4 victory.
