Marina Senior Sets Pole Vault Record
Senior Cara Walker of Huntington Beach Marina set a Division I record in the girls’ pole vault by jumping 12 feet 3 inches at the Southern Section track and field preliminaries Saturday at Long Beach City College. The old mark of 12-2 1/2 was set by Bridget Pearson of Glendale Hoover in 1999.
In the wind-swept sprints, junior Shalonda Solomon of Long Beach Poly won the girls’ 100 in 11.37 and the 200 in 23.36.
Long Beach Poly was also prominent in the boys’ sprints with top qualifying times in the 400 relay, 42.90, and 1,600 relay, 3:20.70.
