Increasing Purses Makes Dollars and Sense
The thoroughbreds and Arabians who will be running this evening will be the first beneficiaries of purse increases for those two breeds.
The track has increased the purses for Arabians by $1,500 and purses for all thoroughbred races have been increased by $500.
“We want our Arabian program to be competitive with anything else offered in the state,” said Ed Allred, the owner of Los Alamitos.
There is one race for thoroughbreds and another for Arabians on tonight’s card. Older fillies and mares racing for a $2,500 claiming price will get together in the second while six older Arabians will go six furlongs in the fourth, a $6,300 allowance.
E.R. Nurse, who will be making her first start since last Sept. 29, is probably the one to catch in the second while At Or In makes her first start in nearly a year for trainer Felix Payne in the fourth.
The picks: 1. Launch Pad Lad. 2. E.R. Nurse. 3. My Royal Angel. 4. At Or In. 5. Local Call. 6. Cr Knud. 7. Elitism. 8. Halloween Moon.
Four! Use Launch Pad Lad and Dalkas in the first, E.R. Nurse and Wannaknowme in the second, My Royal Angel, Party Train, Super Carrie Dee, Royal Juno Bug and Highly Rated in the third and singling At Or In in the fourth.
Shots in the dark: Hawk The Cash debuts for trainer Connie Hall in the sixth. Boys N Berry returns to the scene of his last win in the eighth.
