Texas Tech Scores Win No. 810 for Knight, 89-58
Andre Emmett and Jarrius Jackson each scored 17 points Tuesday night as Texas Tech defeated Davidson, 89-58, in a first-round preseason National Invitation Tournament game at Lubbock, Texas.
The victory was No. 810 for Bob Knight, who is in his third season as Red Raider coach.
Emmett, the leading scorer in the Big 12 Conference last season (21.8 points), was eight of 15 from the field and got all his points before being taken out with about eight minutes remaining.
The Wildcats had 26 turnovers and the Red Raiders had 18 steals. Texas Tech will play Massachusetts, an 80-58 winner over St. Francis, on Friday night.
South Carolina 76, Idaho 66 -- Tarence Kinsey scored a career-high 21 points and Carlos Powell added 19 points at Columbia, S.C., as the Gamecocks (2-0) rolled past the Vandals (1-1).
Georgia Tech 79, Louisiana Lafayette 45 -- B.J. Elder scored 17 points at Atlanta and the Yellow Jackets cruised past the overmatched Ragin’ Cajuns, who are without five players for the fall semester because of eligibility issues.

ESPN.com reported that Tennessee Coach Buzz Peterson has signed a new six-year contract that will extend his agreement through the 2008-09 season. His salary will increase from an estimated $800,000 to $925,000. Peterson is 32-28 in two seasons as Volunteer coach.... The Harris-Stowe (1-4) women’s team ended a National Assn. of Intercollegiate Athletics’ record 71-game losing streak with a 75-59 victory over St. Louis Pharmacy (0-6) at St. Louis.
