Man With Knife Killed by Officers
Anaheim police shot and killed a man inside an apartment after he confronted them with a kitchen knife, authorities said Saturday.
Officers shot the man to protect another man who was being threatened, a police spokesman said. It was Anaheim police’s second officer-involved fatal shooting this month. On Nov. 14, a detective shot and killed a 23-year-old man during an investigation in an unincorporated area near Yorba Linda.
In Friday’s shooting, officers responding to a call about a domestic disturbance about 10 p.m. entered an apartment in the 200 block of South Brookhurst Street, where a man in his 40s was brandishing a large knife, Sgt. Rick Martinez said.
The man had quarreled with a woman who lived at the apartment, and then fought the man whose life he was threatening as police arrived, Martinez said.
“When officers arrived they were confronted by the suspect with a large knife that was like a butcher knife,” Martinez said. “He attempted to attack the other man with the knife, and the officers
Paramedics took the man to Anaheim Memorial Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The identity of the slain man, who lived in La Mirada, was not released, nor were the names of the officers and others involved.
The shooting is under investigation by the Orange County district attorney’s office and Anaheim police.
