FBI Launches Inquiry Into Inmate’s Death
The FBI has opened a civil rights investigation into last month’s inmate death at San Joaquin County Jail, authorities said.
The family of Mondez Denmon also submitted a request this week to the San Joaquin County Grand Jury to investigate the 34-year-old Stockton man’s death.
FBI spokeswoman Karen Ernst said the agency started its investigation after being contacted by the county Sheriff’s Department on Sept. 11.
Denmon died Sept. 5 while being restrained just a few hours after he was booked into jail on suspicion of domestic violence. The official cause of death has not yet been announced.
