Conviction Overturned in Parliament Attack

A college professor was freed from prison after a court overturned his death sentence and conviction in a 2001 attack on India’s Parliament. Syed Abdul Rahman Geelani had been condemned on the basis of wiretaps that allegedly showed he had contact with a convicted plotter.
But the Delhi High Court said there was insufficient evidence. Geelani, from the Indian-controlled portion of Kashmir, was one of four people convicted of aiding five unidentified militants killed in the Parliament attack along with nine other people.
