Edison Gets Defensive in 31-7 Victory
Huntington Beach Edison intercepted four passes and twice prevented Anaheim Esperanza from scoring inside the 20-yard line in a 31-7 Sunset League victory Thursday night at Placentia Valencia High.
Nate Mitani intercepted two passes and returned one 41 yards for a fourth-quarter touchdown. The victory sets up a battle for first place in league next Friday against Fountain Valley at Edison Field.
“I expected a little more, but I didn’t expect much against us, not against our defense,” Mitani said of the Aztecs.
Edison (5-3, 2-1), ranked No. 22 in the Southland by The Times, gave up only a 63-yard scoring pass from Grant Farrell to Wesley Williams in the third quarter after building a 17-0 halftime lead. Esperanza (4-4, 1-2) finished with five turnovers, which led to 17 points.
